My name is Sam, and I'm a junior at Emma Willard School from Hong Kong. Knowing that I have been very privileged with my education opportunities, I have always been interested in education equality, leading me to write a research paper on education in Nepal. In the past year, I have heard and learned about the idea of intersectionality, and I started thinking about how my own identities have shaped me, and my education. I am very passionate about social justice and change, and I want more people to know about intersectionality. This January, I participated in a program called Empowering Female Voices: President's First 100 Days, and I chose to focus on education equality. I also joined the FACTUALITY simulation/program session this March, and that was a really eye-opening experience, as I got to know more about intersectionality in all areas of life. My identity as a queer Asian woman has shaped my experience in education, and I through my past experiences learning and working with education and intersectionality I really want to know more about how the diverse identities of many of our community members have shaped their experience in education.
